Dharma Leadership Fellowship Program (DLF)

Values-Based Leadership & Ethical Decision-Making Fellowship

The Hindu Society of North Carolina (HSNC) is proud to announce a new Fellowship program designed to teach essential leadership skills and instill the core values described in the Bhagwad Geeta and our Upanishads. This comprehensive program is built upon three foundational pillars to provide a holistic learning experience for our students.

First, students will register for a specialized leadership course taught by eminent faculty from the Hindu University of America (HUA). This academic component will conclude at the end of the summer with an exam to assess and reinforce their learning.

Second, the fellowship includes a two-day retreat in a natural woodland setting. This retreat will feature a variety of games, hands-on teachings, and immersive activities designed to build community and practical leadership skills.

Finally, participants will have the opportunity to gain professional experience through internships offered by HSNC and the HUA. Alternatively, students may choose to pursue an independent study from a curated list of topics that will be provided.

Keep in mind that
● The program is faith-informed and values-based
● Content, discussions, and activities are rooted in Hindu philosophy
● Participants are expected to engage respectfully and constructively with that framework

We believe this fellowship offers a unique opportunity for growth and spiritual grounding

Selection Process
Admission to the Fellowship is competitive and merit-based. Applicants are selected through a structured evaluation designed to identify students with strong leadership potential, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to values-based growth.

Application Review

Each application is reviewed by two independent evaluators using a standardized rubric.
Selection is based on the following criteria:
Leadership & Initiative
Demonstrated ability to take responsibility, lead initiatives, or create meaningful impact in school or community settings.

Intellectual Engagement & Reflection
Evidence of critical thinking, self-awareness, and the ability to engage thoughtfully with complex ideas.

Ethical Reasoning & Values Alignment
Demonstrated integrity, ethical judgment, and alignment with Hindu-inspired leadership values such as dharma (duty), seva (service), self-discipline, and responsibility.

Communication Skills
Clarity and coherence of written responses and, where applicable, interview performance.

Commitment & Reliability
Willingness and ability to fully participate in all fellowship activities, including discussions and a required capstone or service project.

Additional Considerations
● Teacher or mentor recommendation
● Diversity of perspectives and experiences within the cohort

All admission and placement decisions are final, binding, and made solely at the discretion of the Hindu Society of North Carolina (HSNC). HSNC reserves the right to accept, deny, revoke, or rescind admission at any stage of the selection or program process, with or without cause, in furtherance of its mission, values, and programmatic needs. No appeals process is available.

Selectivity & Completion
● Admission is limited to maintain a high-quality cohort experience
● Not all applicants are admitted
● Fellowship designation and certificate are awarded only upon successful completion of all program requirements.
